about
A friend of mine, Ron, has been hospitalized since January, 2020. He had a lung removed and his esophagus sliced during surgery. He hasn't been able to eat or drink through his mouth, and has a large opening on his side to access his chest cavity for maintenance since his lung removal. He embodies grace and acceptance through it all, and has deep faith guiding him. He said he wanted me to write a song about his journey. I was honored by the assignment. This is what came to me. He's a djembe player, so I included one, and a heartbeat throughout.
Sad to update this by saying that Ron died (in California) of cardiac arrest in November 2020, a few weeks after surgery to repair his esophagus. He had gotten pneumonia in his only lung, and I'm sure he was just too weak after 9 months of hospitalization to survive the added strain on him.
He will be missed.
lyrics
Didn't see this coming, everything was fine
Bought me some land, to build a house of mine
When the rug I was standin' on, pulled-out from under me
Then I went on a journey, I couldn't foresee
Won't give up, I'll keep on tryin'
Hold on tight, too soon for dyin'
Won't give up, I'll keep on tryin'
Hold on tight, too soon for dyin'
Can't make this shit up, I'm not gonna give up
There's no use in crying' it's too soon for dyin'
Can't make this shit up, I'm not gonna give up
There's no use in crying' it's too soon for dyin'
Oh Lord.... hold my hand
Oh Lord... I trust you
I'm a faithful man
Won't give up, I'll keep on tryin'
Hold on tight, too soon for dyin' [x4]
